  3. Rich Hill (Film)

    June 6, 2014 - 1:30pm

Winner of the 2014 Sundance Film Festival Documentary Grand Jury Prize, this intimate and shattering documentary is set in the impoverished town of Rich Hill, Missouri. Life here is challenging for three teenagers with hopes and dreams. Andrew is 13, athletic and devoted to his family, yet his mother is ill and his father cannot provide for them. Harley, 15, suffers from severe anger: his grandmother takes care of him since he was abused by his stepfather and his mother is in prison. Appachey, age 12, needs medication for multiple behavioral disorders. He has just assaulted a classmate and faces institutionalization. Evoking the bleakness and beauty of Rich Hill, this film enters these boys’ homes and hearts. It warns us against letting what is precious slip away, and celebrates families who fight against all odds to give their children a chance.
