  • As the food rescue and food bank program serving Washtenaw County, Food Gatherers exists to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes in our community. Food Gatherers rescues food that would otherwise go to waste from more than 300 local sources including food retailers, restaurants, and food wholesalers. As members of both the Food Bank Council of Michigan and Feeding America, we are connected to statewide and national corporate and government food donations. Our neighbors living in poverty face a much higher likelihood of having high cholesterol, diabetes and other diet related ailments.  Food Gatherers is focused on distributing not just more pounds of food but more nutritionally valuable food.
  • Project Description: Volunteers generally help us sort food (such as produce), stock our pantry with canned goods, repackage bulk items, help us salvage/wash damaged products (such as a case of juice boxes with one that is leaking), and work with us to keep the warehouse and trucks clean and food-safe.
  • Special Instructions: Please wear comfortable clothing, no sleeveless shirts or tank tops, and sensible non-slip shoes with closed toes (no sandals).
  • Site Location: 1 Carrot Way, Ann Arbor MI 48105
