After completing his Ph.D. at Washington University in 2007, Professor Perron joined the faculty at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. His research focuses on mental disorders and addiction, emphasizing services, clinical epidemiology, and psychometrics. He has two active NIH grants as a principal investigator (R03 DA027832, R03 AA019575), in addition to other projects funded by the State of Michigan and various centers of the University of Michigan. Professor Perron is on the editorial review board of four different social work journals (Research on Social Work Practice, Social Work Research, Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions, and Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research) and reviews for over 30 specialty journals. He has a strong inter-disciplinary collaborative network, which has helped him build his current portfolio of research grants and publications. Although he has a strong identity as a researcher, he is also very much committed to social work education. At the Master?s level, he teaches courses in diagnosis and treatment, which are firmly grounded in his post-Master's social work experience. In 2010, he received the University of Michigan's Faculty Advisor of the Year Award for his work with a student group called Students for Recovery. Professor Perron regularly involves students in his research projects, in addition to giving workshops on publishing in journals and writing dissertation grants. He also provides free consultation to community organizations on grant writing, program development, clinical services, and use of technology.
