Community Organization
The Community Organization Learning Community is an initiative to reaffirm community organization as an area of excellence in the University of Michigan School of Social Work. The work of this community will:
- strengthen student learning
- involve faculty members in research and teaching
- develop campus-community partnerships
- advance community organization as a field of practice and subject of study in graduate education
The program develops skills to:
- Organize groups for social action
- Plan programs at the local level
- Develop community-based services
- Involve people in decisions that affect their lives
The program - is the oldest and largest of its kind - prepares students from diverse backgrounds, and incorporates issues related to class, race, ethnicity, gender, age, and cultural differences
